Standard Precautions and Procedures

Presented by: Valerie Chang, PA

With the increasing cases of COVID-19, healthcare facilities are changing the way they are providing care.

Some of the job duties affected by the current situation include:

  • Office visits are changed to telemedicine (which involves technological challenges)
  • Dialysis visits in person vs. via telemedicine
  • LTAC (Long Term Acute Care) rounding

Preventive Measures Have Become More Important Than Ever

Some preventative measures include:

  • Check temperature
  • Questionnaires of symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, etc.)
  • Handwashing
  • Masks/Face Shields
  • Gloves
  • Disposable Gowns
  • Modified Exams
  • Office Upgrades: partitions, supplies, etc.

TCM Principles

“Whenever pernicious evils accumulate, the qi is necessarily deficient. If yin is deficient, Yang necessarily accumulates.” (Basic Question in Huang Di Nei Jing)

The Chinese medicine recognition of the disease process emphasizes the invasion of pathogenic factors as well as the powers of healthy qi in preventing their invasion.

Ways to Stay Healthy

  • Nutrition: Food or Supplements
  • Exercise routine: Yoga, Qigong, Taichi, Breathing, or any of one’s choice
  • Quality Sleep
  • Reasonable Workload
