Catastrophic or Disruptive Event Policy
Purpose
Wongu University is committed to mitigating the impact of crises or operational disruptions and to maintaining continuity of operations in the event of a catastrophic or disruptive circumstance. This policy outlines the measures the University will take to ensure students receive the education and services for which they have paid, consistent with NRS 394.449. This does not apply to Veterans who get called to active service.
Continuity of Instruction
In the event of a catastrophic or disruptive occurrence—such as a natural disaster, fire, or extended facility closure—the University will implement strategies to continue educational services with minimal interruption. These strategies may include offering classes in alternative formats (e.g., online or hybrid delivery) as permitted by the program’s accreditor, adjusting academic calendars or class schedules, or utilizing temporary facilities. In accordance with Nevada law, the University will offer these at no additional cost and within a similar timeframe.
Refunds
If a course cannot be completed due to a catastrophic event and the University’s alternative arrangements (e.g., online classes or adjusted schedules) do not meet a student’s needs, the student may drop a course and will be refunded within 15 days, according to the Institutional Refund Policy. If the disruption and subsequent dropping of a course occurs after 60% of the course has been completed and the student elects not to continue with the alternative arrangement, the University will follow its Institutional Refund Policy of no refunds. Students who withdraw after a catastrophic or disruptive event may be eligible for a withdrawal (W) rather than a withdrawal-fail (WF).
If the University is unable to provide alternative arrangements to continue instruction on part or all of the courses for which students have paid, a full refund will be issued for these courses. Should the University substantially fail to provide the program of study outlined in the enrollment agreement, refunds will be made according to the Institutional Refund Policy.
Transfer of Credits
If a student chooses to withdraw from the university and transfer to another institution, even if the school has offered alternative arrangements, the University will, upon request, assist in transferring earned credits to other institutions. This may include providing transcripts, course syllabi, and other necessary documentation at no additional cost, helping to facilitate a smooth transition.
Indemnification and School Closure
In the event of a school closure, discontinued operation, or if the institution is found in violation of applicable regulations resulting in its inability to provide instruction, students may seek relief through the Account for Student Indemnification (NRS 394.553). The University will comply with all regulations governing indemnification or surety bonds to protect students from financial loss. Should the University discontinue operations entirely, it will notify the Nevada Commission on Postsecondary Education, its accreditor, and all enrolled students as soon as practicable, outlining any available options for teach-outs, credit transfers, or refunds under this policy or as otherwise required by law.
Dissemination and Updates
Wongu University reserves the right to update this policy in response to changes in law, regulation, or accreditor standards, and will communicate any amendments promptly to students and staff.
